Baptism by Fire (in my lungs)

4.22.2007
Training is officially underway now that I've completed a "team run" with my fellow Helsinki marathoners. There were only four of us there, but it was good to have people with whom to run. We ran 6 or 7 miles around lakes Calhoun and Harriet in Minneapolis. This is the most I've ran in over 5 months... so it wasn't exactly easy.

On the drive over to the lake I expelled quite a lot of substance from my lungs. I won't go further into this, but I think my lungs were (and still are) suffering from a combination of the start of allergy season and a mid-week bout of some sickness. Needless to say, the last few miles were not pleasant. But now that's over and I can focus on longer distances. I'm a little sore today, but I'm on way way out of being terribly out of shape.

Ruggles' first run

4.18.2007
It's incredibly nice outside and the Helsinki training meeting inspired me to get off my butt, so I decided to take Ruggles running. I can't tell who dragged who more...but we managed to make it two miles. I felt sorry for him after that so I took him home for water. Hopefully we can both get in shape and run real distances. Also: Until I get my Nike+, I think I'll use mapmyrun.com to track distances and record my training. Here's a map of Ruggles first run:
